An Idea for Educational Reform

Summer is better than the school year. Do you know why? Because in the summer one is free to do what one wants. This freedom is vastly underestimated by the powers that be in the educational world. Compulsory education should stop after 10th grade, and I don't just mean forced attendance. Everyone should attend the rest of high school and most should go to college, but they should get to do what they love. If class is standing in your way, then kick it out of the way and learn something better. The Torrey Honors Institute at Biola is supposed to be this way, and they have come the closest to free learning that I have seen, but I predict that as the program grows, so will mandatory requirements (and the requirements can already be oppresive to the spirit).

Everyone should learn by a private tutor who understands life, love, emotions, and the things that are more important than books.

At least I should.

P.S. Also, everyone should study out of doors. Whoever invented classrooms was not thinking of the soul.
